I did find that the writing style was a little pretentious at times… a little showy… and in a few bits it was grammatically confusing but mostly it was deep and beautiful and fit the book so extremely well. If there’s one single aesthetic this book has, it’s a red rose frozen in dark ice… It was so very different in feel and aesthetic than “ Once I Knew.” It’s foggy mountains and snow-laden pines and dark cloudy winter days, silent wolves and dark red clothes and weathered leather. I was pretty certain this would be strong and gritty and beautiful, but it still wasn’t what I expected.
